Miley shows lots of, ahem, front

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

MILEY Cyrus may have come in for a lot of criticism following her controversial VMAs performance in the summer – but the pop singer bared her soul and a lot of flesh to deliver a message of peace at the latest MTV ceremony.

True to form, the 20-year- old star ensured nothing was left to the imagination last night at the European Music Awards as she opted for a tiny dress with the words ‘Please stop violence’ emblazoned across the front.

However, it was the back of the skimpy number which was more of a talking point, as she once again exposed plenty of skin.

Her dress – which looked like it had been sewn up from sections of printed T-shirts – featured pictures of the murdered rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, as well as the words ‘Please stop violence’.

She completed her outfit with a pair thigh-high boots and gold chains.

Clearly unperturbed by widespread critcism over her raunchy antics at the American Video Music Awards this summer, she was up to the same tricks at last night’s

‘Semi-naked sex objects’

MTV EMAs event in Amsterdam. Opening the show with her single We Can’t Stop, she ‘twerked’ on stage with a female dwarf and suggestively stuck out her tongue.

Miley became a child star in 2006 as the wholesome lead in the Disney series Hannah Montana. But since the MTV VMAs performance in August, in which she danced suggestively in a latex bikini with singer Robin Thicke and made lewd gestures with a foam finger, to her critics she has become synonymous with everything that’s wrong with modern pop music.

She compounded the controversy by appearing completely naked in the video clip for her song Wrecking Ball.

At the Netherlands awards, she won the Best Video for Wrecking Ball despite the raunchy antics. This prompted Silvia Murray Wakefield of the women’s group Object to call for age ratings to be applied to music videos. She said: ‘Sexist and racist music videos portray women as sex objects according to harmful stereotypes.

‘Young women tell us they are sick and tired of music videos presenting women as faceless and semi-naked sex objects.’

Among the Irish stars there were close friends Laura Whitmore, who dazzled on the red carpet, and Niall Horan of One Direction. The Mullingar heart-throb and his bandmates were nominated in three categories.

And despite them being nominated collectively in the Best Look category, Harry Styles took the gong for his solo efforts. Katy Perry, meanwhile won Best Female award.
