DYCHE PAYS FOR BUDGET DEFICIT

- RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

SEAN DDYCHE says if he could rerun Burnley’s season he would ‘get the cheque book out’. Whether the club’s board would have sanctioned greater spending is another matter. Dyche has indicated his club operated with half the transfer budget and half the wage bill of the Premier League’s next lowest spenders. It was telling, and perhaps ominous, when they failed to make a single signing in January. Dyche said: ‘If there was finance available that would have obviously supported the group. If you want better players then you go back into the market in the Championship — and trust me, the fees were massive.’ Mark Noble scored a firsthalf penalty after Michael Duff was controversially sent off by FA Cup final referee Jonathan Moss. The result leaves Burnley eight points from safety with three games to play.
