Low-maintenance star steals show at Supreme cat contest
HE’S a ‘big lazy teddy bear’ who is low maintenance – and Finches Milltree Loft’s laidback disposition proved a winning formula yesterday when he was named Best In Show at the Supreme Cat Show. The 11-month-old British short-hair was j oined at the competition in Ballinteer Community School, Dublin, by owner Oli ver Noonan f r om Tallaght. In order to prepare Finches for the show, Mr Noonan said his pet ‘just has to be fed well and kept groomed... fed a good diet and be out in the sun, the usual conditions – they’re not high-maintenance cats for grooming.’
And he added that the young cat likes nothing more than sleeping on his chair. Mr Noonan said ‘He is very, very laid back – he’s a big, lazy teddy bear’.
The show, organised by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy of Ireland, celebrated its silver jubilee at the weekend.
To mark the occasion, contestants were invited to decorate their pets’ pens in keeping with the silver theme. Finches faced tough competition from a variety of breeds, including Persian Cats, Exotics, Birmans, Maine Coons, Burmese, Abyssinians, Russian Blue, Bengal, Sphynx and Siamese.
Elaine Hughes was among the proud owners. And she took 11-month-old Canadian Sphynx Lusk to the show.
Meanwhile, Bulgar, a Maine Coon cat, raised eyebrows – and whiskers – with his lion-like mane. He was brought to the show by his owner, Gniewko Piotrkowski, from Gorey, Co. Wexford.
