Rescued, now they’re just looking for love

- By Leah McDonald

THEY were among 340 dogs rescued from a puppy farm in Co. Carlow last month.

And these adorable huskies are now thriving and almost ready to be rehomed, after being cared for by the ISPCA.

Still less than four weeks old, none of the puppies has been named yet.

Carmel Murray, public relations manager with the ISPCA, said the puppies would be ready to be rehomed in three weeks.

Last month, the ISPCA rescued 340 dogs and 11 horses from a puppy farm in Myshall, Co. Carlow.

ISPCA officers, as well as gardaí and officials from the Department of Agriculture and the local authority, were involved in the operation, which took place over a nine-day period.

The majority of the animals were transported to the ISPCA National Animal Centre in Longford; some were taken to the ISPCA Equine Centre in Mallow and others went to other animal welfare groups that offered assistance.

Ms Murray said: ‘We took in quite a few husky dogs. Some of them came in with puppies and some were pregnant.

‘They are in our care right now and they have been vaccinated and rehabilitated.’

The rescued dogs were mostly adult females ranging in breeds from cocker spaniels, Siberian huskies, Yorkshire terriers, bichon frise crosses, cavalier King Charles and shih tzus plus a small number of large-breed puppies.

The majority of the dogs had heavily matted coats and were suffering from chronic skin, eye and teeth problems.
