DERRY LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER
ON THE busiest weekend of the qualifiers, Sportsmail has a look at the 12 teams in action.
ALL-IRELAND SFC QUALIFIERS ROUND 2B
TODAY
Derry v Wexford, Owenbeg, 2.0
LAST DAY OUT
Derry: Left to rue some missed opportunities as they allowed an out-ofsorts Donegal off the hook in the Ulster SFC semi-final.
Wexford: A two-goal salvo from the Rossiter brothers helped the Division 4 outfit to a five-point win over Down in Wexford Park.
WHAT THEY NEED
Derry: Better finishing. Against Donegal they managed just 10 scores from 25 shots.
Wexford: More days like this. The more Championship matches they can experience, the better.
Tipperary v Louth, Semple Stadium, 2.45
LAST DAY OUT
Tipperary: Despite much enthusiasm and worried talk out of the Kingdom, the reigning All-Ireland champions stuttered past Peter Creedon’s side.
Louth: Rebounded from Leinster SFC defeat to Westmeath with an eightpoint victory over Leitrim.
WHAT THEY NEED
Tipperary: Signs of progress at senior level. The minor and Under-21 trophies must be built on.
Louth: Colin Kelly has a young team that will gain confidence the longer their summer goes on. Talents like Conor Grimes will only improve. Tyrone v Meath, Healy Park, 3.0
LAST DAY OUT
Tyrone: They did enough to eventually find a way past a game Limerick.
Meath: Threw away an eight-point half-time lead as Westmeath scored a historic first win over their neighbours in the Leinster SFC semi-final.
WHAT THEY NEED
Tyrone: A new talisman. Seán Cavanagh’s 75th championship appearance throws into sharp relief their continued reliance on the 32-year-old treble All-Ireland winner.
Meath: A solid 70-minute display, from start to finish.
SUNDAY
Armagh v Galway, Athletic Grounds, 3.0
LAST DAY OUT
Armagh: Two late Jamie Clarke goals put a gloss on their 10-point win over Wicklow in qualifier.
Galway: Home advantage was not enough to tip the balance against Mayo in the Connacht SFC semi-final.
WHAT THEY NEED
Armagh: A proper contest to spark their summer. We’re still waiting for a spirited performance.
Galway: The flair of Shane Walsh. The talented attacker was lucky to escape a fatal car collision last month with a broken hand but he is still some way from fitness.
ALL-IRELAND SFC QUALIFIERS ROUND 3A
TODAY Longford v Kildare, Cusack Park, Mullingar, 7.0 LAST DAY OUT
Longford: It may not have been on the same scale as their win in Derry last year, but beating Clare below in Ennis still showed grit.
Kildare: They managed to put a 19-point hiding by Dublin behind them and eked out a two-point win over Offaly.
WHAT THEY NEED
Longford: Renovations. The closure of a stand at Pearse Park has seen Jack Sheedy’s men lose home advantage.
Kildare: Some stability. The departure of David Hyland and Darroch Mulhall to America was a blow to squad.
SUNDAY
Fermanagh v Roscommon, Brewster Park, 3.30
LAST DAY OUT
Fermanagh: Comfortably negotiated a tricky second encounter with a resurgent Antrim, who they previously beat in the Ulster SFC.
Roscommon: Dusted themselves off after Sligo defeat, travelled to Cavan and recorded a seven-point win.
WHAT THEY NEED
Fermanagh: A sharper edge. Pete McGrath believes a lack of goal-scoring opportunities could cost his team against better opposition.
Roscommon: Honorary membership of the Ulster Championship. This will be Roscommon’s eighth straight qualifier against Ulster opposition — and their third in a row on the road.
