I’m half the woman I was, says mother who shed 13 stone

A MOTHER who once was so overweight she was unable to walk unaided has lost more than half her weight.

Carol Ann Curley, 48, is convinced she would not be alive today had she not visited her GP in late 2013 after her weight had ballooned to 24 stone.

After being told she was suffering serious health issues, including high cholestero­l, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and failing kidneys, she knew she had to transform her lifestyle simply to save her life.

By February this year, just 15 months after she joined a slimming class, Ms Curley had lost 13st 4lb – a feat which led to her being named the most inspiratio­nal Unislimmer of the year.

Now 10st 10lb, a weight she maintains by way of a healthy diet and regular exercise, the mother of four from Roundwood, Co.

‘I had to use a kitchen stool on wheels to walk’

Wicklow, is now running her own Unislim class in nearby Ashford.

Ms Curley, who is also grandmothe­r, said her new energetic, fun-filled life could not be more different to the dark days when she was obese.

She said: ‘I started to put on weight about nine years ago after I gave up smoking.

‘I was comfort-eating, my weight ballooned and it got to the stage where I couldn’t buy clothes that fit me.

‘It got to the stage where I could no longer walk unaided. I had to use a kitchen stool on wheels to get around the house.’

Ms Curley said: ‘I’m a completely different person and love the life I now have and all the things I can do. I’ve recently walked the Wicklow Way, climbed the Sugarloaf and I also did the mini-marathon.’
