Two killed in road accidents over weekend
TWO young men were killed in separate road accidents over the weekend.
Simon McGeoghegan, 31, was walking when he was struck by a car on the M11 at Roscath, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday night around 10.25pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident took place just south of Wicklow town.
The local coroner was notified and the man’s body was removed to the mortuary at Loughlinstown Hospital in south Dublin for a post-mortem examination, according to gardaí.
Mr McGeoghegan was originally from Co. Donegal but is believed to have been living in Co. Wicklow.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was killed after his motorcycle left the road and struck a barrier in Co. Westmeath. The collision occurred at Heathstown, Coralstown, east of Mullingar town on the old N4 yesterday morning. The man was taken by ambulance to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where he was later pronounced dead.
