JEAN-CLAUDE Juncker should learn more about Irish history before comparing the refugee crisis to Irish emigration to the US in the 1800s. Does he not realise that the Murphys and O’Neills wouldn’t have had to leave if our English rulers and landlords had fed our starving people during the Great Famine?

PÁDRAIG Ó DONNCHA, via email. I LIVE in Ringsend in Dublin and there are regularly about six Irish people who sleep in the grounds of a church located near me. Given the outpouring of concern regarding the Mediterranean refugees, why doesn’t the Government look after these Irish people?
