We were excluded – this Budget is a joke

- By Sean Dunne

A DUBLIN mother, who described becoming homeless in August as her ‘worst nightmare’, has hit out at the Government for ‘failing’ homeless families in the 2016 Budget.

Danielle Adderley, originally from Blanchardstown in west Dublin, became homeless after her rented accommodation was sold earlier this year.

The 33-year-old mother is now staying in a hotel with her two sons and is currently on Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Ms Adderley said that the Government had failed to listen to the ‘cries’ of the homeless families with this year’s budget.

‘They didn’t consider us whatsoever. The protest we did was to highlight the crisis we are living in and we basically did this for nothing. They did nothing to help us today.

‘They literally want everyone on the streets to die. The Government couldn’t care less about us and the Budget showed this to us as clear as day.’

The young mother added: ‘It’s an absolute joke to exclude us from this budget. They haven’t a clue what is really needed and there’s going to be “war” as we are all so sick of this.’

Before becoming homeless, Ms Adder-

ley was living in rented accommodation in Castleknock that cost €1,350 a month, while in receipt of rent allowance of €850.

Ms Adderley told of other families’ distress at the Budget announcement saying: ‘We are all in a group chat on Facebook discussing the outcome today and there is a feeling of being “let down”.

‘We all said it’s a disgrace: Enda Kenny is not seeing what is going on with [us] in hotels. We are only getting two weeks here and there, and this just isn’t good enough for all the young families left in limbo.

‘I don’t think it’s good enough for anyone to live like this and I can’t believe they [the Government] passed us over again.’

Ms Adderley added: ‘If they cared they could have offered us something more than a date that is five years away. I can’t wait any longer especially with the children.

‘It’s the children that are feeling this the most and they are hurting.’
