DISGRACED BANKER SHUFFLED INTO COURT IN HANDCUFFS AND LEG CHAINS

-

DAVID Drumm shuffled into the US District Court in Boston wearing leg chains and with his hands handcuffed behind his back yesterday afternoon.

Wearing a light blue shirt and dark trousers, he was led in via a side door and was escorted to his seat beside his lawyer by two security guards, who uncuffed him.

He spoke only when judge Donald Cabell addressed him: ‘Good afternoon Mr Drumm.’ In a clear voice, the disgraced banker replied: ‘Good afternoon your honour.’

He listened intently throughout the 15 minute hearing before a guard put his handcuffs back on and he was led out.

Judge Cabell told Drumm the ‘principal issue’ to be addressed is whether there is probable cause that he committed the crimes.

Drumm’s lawyer Tracy Miner said that due to the complexity of the case and the potential political causes she ‘could not imagine I would be prepared for and extradition hearing in less than three or four months’.

Judge Cabell set the date for the extradition hearing for November 10 at which time Ms Miner said she will outline her objections to prosecution case.

She indicated that she would be applying for bail and said that there was no issue that Drumm was a ‘danger to the community’.

Judge Cabell said that unless there were ‘exceptional circumstances’ then Drumm would remain in custody and set the bail hearing for Friday morning.

The banker’s ashen-faced wife Lorraine wore a navy shirt-dress and heels and sat at the back of the court looking anxious.

She stared at her husband being led out but he did look back or meet her gaze.
