Forget Hollywood, I pick Wicklow

HE’S now a bankable international star, but Jack Reynor has no intention of following fellow Irish exports Chris O’Dowd or Robbie Keane to set up home in the Hollywood hills.

Despite more and more movie offers coming from the US, as well as a string of films set to hit cinema screens in the coming months – including The Jungle Book with Andy Serkis and Secret Scripture with Aidan Turner and Rooney Mara – the 24year- old insisted he and his fiancée model Madeline Mulqueen are not interested in LA life.

The Wicklow man told the Irish Daily Mail that living in Ireland keeps

‘It’s very important for me to be there’

him grounded.

He said: ‘It’s always got to be in Ireland, that’s it. It’s very important for me to be here.

‘If I have to go over, I’ll go over but ultimately when I’m not working, I’m at home and I’m just relaxing and chilling out down in Co. Wicklow.’

The IFTA winner was speaking at the Opening Gala screening of Sing Street, as part of The Audi Dublin International Film Festival last night.

Model beauty Mulqueen arrived ahead of her future husband and kept a low profile until Reynor showed up.

The couple then joined the cast on the red carpet and posed for pictures alongside co-star Aidan Gillen, 47, and director John Carney.

Sing Street first screened at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and has been hailed as a critical success.

Filmmaker Carney is now working on a television pilot for American audiences and told the Mail he would ‘love’ to write a part for Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan.

‘I think she’ll win the Academy Award,’ he said.

‘I know people are thinking Brie Larson but I’m [betting] on Saoirse.’

The 14th annual festival runs until February 28 in Dublin and screen legend Richard Gere, 66, will join well-known faces British-American actress Angela Lansbury, Italian actress Claudia Cardinale and American director Rebecca Miller to complete the programme.
