THE WORKERS LEFT IN LURCH BY STOPPAGE

-

FRANCESCO Nuzzo, 26, from Italy, was among the hundreds queuing outside Heuston Station for buses yesterday morning as a result of Luas strike.

The frustrated commuter told the Irish Daily Mail: ‘I’m frustrated that the Luas workers are on strike again today.

‘I work out in Citywest and take the Luas out there each morning to my office.

‘I’m frustrated because I’m going to be late for work and there doesn’t seem to be any buses that are heading out to Citywest from here.

‘It’s going to cost me €30, if not more, to get out there in rush-hour traffic in a taxi.’

He added: ‘I don’t agree with the strike because it puts a lot of workers to a lot of extra hassle to get to and from work.

‘Workers are paid a good wage from what I hear, so I don’t see why they are striking.’

‘I’m going to be late for work so have to catch a taxi now.’

There was no hint of sympathy for the drivers at Heuston. Also caught out by the strike was Sheila Hughes, from Celbridge, Co. Kildare.

She told the Mail: ‘I travel up from Kildare every morning on the train, and usually take the Luas into work in the city centre.

‘It’s an inconvenience for me to have to get a bus this morning now and it will be packed this evening trying to take it back in time to get my train home.’
