I took three years off music, Enya reveals
ENYA has given a rare interview yesterday to promote her new album, her first since 2008.
The singer said she had taken a full three years off before starting work on the album, Dark Sky Island, and that it had been inspired by the magnificent views from her castle on Killiney Hill in south Dublin.
Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on ITV’s This Morning, Enya said of her home, which overlooks the sea and the Wicklow mountains: ‘Every day it’s a different view. It’s very inspirational.’
Enya has sold 75million albums worldwide but has always kept a low profile, rarely giving interviews and never touring.
She said of her long break: ‘After three years, the yearning to be back writing and performing was there, so it was beautiful to go back to the studio.’
The first single from the album is Echoes In Rain, which she contrasted with her 1988 hit, Orinoco Flow.
‘Orinoco was the journey to all these wonderful places, physical or imaginary, but Echoes In Rain is the journey home,’ she said.
