Swansea’s sick boss in hospital

- By ADAM SHERGOLD

FRANCESCO GUIDOLIN was absent from the Swansea dug-out at Arsenal last night after being admitted to hospital with a lung infection. The 60-year-old Italian was referred to a respiratory specialist in London in the hours leading up to the match at the Emirates Stadium after failing to respond to treatment for the problem he had been struggling with for a week. Swansea said Guidolin was in a ‘comfortable position’ and is expected to recover fully in a few days. They host Norwich in a relegation clash on Saturday. ‘The specialist felt the best course of action was for Guidolin to remain in hospital for a few days to receive further treatment,’ the club said. First-team coach Alan Curtis, who was in charge of the club for five weeks in December and January, stepped in to take charge. Curtis said: ‘Francesco has probably complained for a week or so, we thought it was a chest infection. It turns out he has an infection in his lung. The course of action is he just needs to rest up and hopefully he will be OK for the weekend.’
