Barton rings changes for clash with Red Hands

-

DERRY manager Damian Barton has changed a third of his starting team for tomorrow’s Division 2 League clash with Tyrone. In response to last weekend’s defeat to Galway, goalkeeper Eoin McNicholl, Owen Duffy, Niall Holly, Seán Leo McGoldrick and Emmet McGuckin come into the team, with Thomas Mallon, Ryan Ferris, Benny Heron, Danny McKinless and Mark Lynch making way. ÷ GALWAY’S hopes of returning to the top flight in the Allianz Football League have been dealt a blow with new goalkeeper Thomas Dolan ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. The Athenry netminder made his inter-county debut during Galway’s successful FBD League campaign in January. However, a knee injury has disrupted his progress and manager Kevin Walsh said they will have to plan without him for the remainder of the League. ‘It’s a blow to him and to the squad as he did very well since coming in,’ said Walsh. ‘But the main thing now is for Thomas to make a full recovery and come back stronger.’

ROSCOMMON’S county chairman Seamus Sweeney has expressed his ‘regret’ at a GAA decision to move his county’s Division 2 clash with Down to Longford. The Dr Hyde Park pitch was ruled unplayable and a request to switch the game to Kiltoom was rejected by Croke Park. Roscommon played Monaghan in their opening game at the St Brigid’s club ground, but a restricted capacity meant that just 2,900 spectators attended the all-ticket match
