McCONVILLE WALKS FROM CROSS POST

- ORLA BANNON

OISÍN McCONVILLE has claimed he will never manage another club after deciding to step down as joint-manager of Crossmaglen Rangers. McConville (right) and John McEntee have made the difficult call to resign in the wake of the All-Ireland club semi-final defeat by Castlebar Mitchells three weeks ago. The pair won one Ulster title and two Armagh championships during their two years in charge. Gareth O’Neill, who was previously jointmanager alongside Tony McEntee winning back-to-back All-Ireland club titles in 2011 and 2012, has taken sole charge of the team. O’Neill, who is McConville’s brother-in-law, was appointed on Wednesday night in a seamless transition before most players were even aware the outgoing duo had left. McConville says he will help O’Neill by doing some coaching — but won’t be taking on another club job. Despite the many options that are available in club management, McConville is committed to remaining a one-club man. ‘I just wouldn’t have the passion or the drive for it,’ he revealed. ‘It’s Cross and Armagh. That’s it as far as I’m concerned.’ McConville, who won six All-Ireland club titles as a player with Cross as well an All-Ireland crown with Armagh in 2002, is certain to have a posse of clubs chasing his services but says he will happily turn down any offers. ‘I’ve always said that if I’m heading out of the house in the evening, I have to have the passion for what I’m doing, so I just couldn’t go to another club,’ added McConville.
