Jagger ‘left fuming’ as Jerry weds Murdoch

- by Alison Boshoff

YESTERDAY’S CIVIL CEREMONY

HOLDING hands, the newlyweds emerged from Spencer House, a private palace in St James’s, London, where the civil ceremony took place. Built for John, 1st Earl Spencer, one of Princess Diana’s ancestors, it remains in the ownership of the current earl, namely Diana’s brother Charles Spencer.

Dressed in a below-the-knee, navyblue dress, grey, three- quarterlength coat, opaque tights and flat shoes, Jerry’s glamour was discreet. Hours beforehand, she was spotted shopping for tights with ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s wife Suzanne in an upmarket hosiery store.

The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Murdoch’s son, Lachlan, who was joined by his wife Sarah, and Suzanne Wyman.

The select party moved on to an i nformal wedding breakfast at Scott’s restaurant.

The groom kissed the bride as they left the Mayfair eaterie. He tweeted: ‘Feel like the luckiest AND happiest man alive.’ A marriage certificate for the ceremony, however, shows the pair’s very different heritage. Keith Murdoch, Mr Murdoch’s late father, was a publisher while Ms Hall’s was a truck driver.

THE ROCK

A BEAUTIFUL 20-carat marquise cut diamond ring, worth around € 3 million. It i s set on a thick platinum band. Despite being the mother to four of Mick Jagger’s children, Jerry has never owned an engagement ring before.

THE CHURCH BLESSING

ALL six of the pair’s daughters from previous relationships will be bridesmaids, according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald. ‘All the daughters are being included, from both sides. . . it was a very specific request to bring them all together for the wedding,’ a source told the Australian newspaper.

The church blessing will be held at 11am today at 17th-century Christopher Wren church St Bride’s in Fleet Street — where there is a memorial plaque to Murdoch’s late father Keith, also a j ournalist. Around 100 guests are expected.

It’s a great contrast to the glitz of his previous wedding to Wendi Deng, which took place on a yacht with a serenade from Charlotte Church.

This is a traditional ceremony, for a man who is asserting his place at the heart of the media establishment. The Rev Canon Dr Alison Joyce will preside, and has said that there will be hymns, readings, prayers and some choral items.

‘It will be very much a family event for both of them as their sons and daughters will be involved,’ she says.

Jerry and Rupert will reaffirm vows made yesterday at their legally binding civil ceremony — the couple opted not to wait to complete complex paperwork to have made the church ceremony binding.

A LUCKY BLUE DRESS

JERRY has turned to her old pal Vivienne Westwood for her bridal gown. The two have been firm friends for more than 20 years and Jerry loves her dresses, particularly corseted ones. Westwood has a bespoke bridal range, which costs upwards of €10,000.

Jerry’s dress is ‘ i ce- blue’ silk georgette — because she loves the colour and of course because it is lucky to have something borrowed and something blue. It is full length and fitted.

THE RECEPTION

LIKE the civil ceremony, the reception will be held at Spencer House and will feature many high-profile political and celebrity figures.

Michael Gove and Michael Caine will be among the guests but David Cameron, George Osborne and Boris Johnson ( rumoured to be attending), will be conspicuous by their absence.

Friends of Jerry’s will include former BBC boss Alan Yentob and playwright Tom Stoppard, with his glamorous wife Sabrina Guinness, a former squeeze of Prince Charles. Also invited are Jerry’s modelling partner-incrime Marie Helvin and old friends comedian Eddie Izzard, artist Tracey Emin and actor Richard E. Grant.

Rebekah Brooks — CEO of News UK — is in charge of the guest list. Jerry is said to be ‘wary’ of Rebekah and of how close Rupert is to her. ‘She thinks that Rupert talks to her too much, and it makes her uneasy,’ says one friend.

THE FLOWERS

JERRY is a keen gardener and loves highly scented flowers, particularly orchids. White roses, white tulips, white amaryllis, and gypsophila were delivered to Spencer House yesterday in advance of the reception tonight.

Her hair is being done by celebrity London hair dresser Charles Worthington, whom she adores.

THE HONEYMOON

A CLOSELY guarded secret, but the smart money is on a cruise on his 220ft super-yacht, the Vertigo, possibly around Mexico, where he took son James for his 40th birthday. The yacht has a vast open deck, five suites and its own swimming pool. Wherever the destination, the break is likely to last for ten days. As Murdoch tweeted yesterday: ‘No more tweets for 10 days — or ever!’

STAGS AND HENS

RUPERT opted for a stag party in Las Vegas. Around 20 of his friends, plus sons James and Lachlan, flew to the Wynn Hotel. They enjoyed a magic show and a Sinatra impersonator, followed by a steak dinner.

Apparently they all wore matching T-shirts, with Rupert’s bearing his initials KRM on the pocket and the legend ‘The Boss’ on the back.

Jerry simply had a quiet dinner with some girlfriends at her house in Richmond, London.

THE WHIRLWIND ROMANCE

THEY met in Australia l ast August, when Jerry was touring Down Under with a production of The Graduate. Penny Fowler, a niec niece of Murdoch’s sister Janet, intr introduced them. They ‘ got on imm immediately’ and made the liaison public in October.

Th Their first public outing was at the Rugby World Cup final in Tw Twickenham — both wore Au Australia scarves and expressio sions of delight. H He proposed over Christmas an and they spent New Year’s Eve on a yacht in the Caribbean with som some of their children.

J Jerry’s old friend, actress Joan Co Collins, told Hello! magazine th that Jerry gushed: ‘I’m in lurve! Ru Rupert just proposed!’ T They announced the engagem ment after another joint appearan ance at the Golden Globe film aw awards ceremony in January — via a € €420 advert in The Times.

A frie friend of Jerry’s said: ‘He is simply dazzled by her and she doesn’t have to worry about him going off with someone else, which makes a change after Mick. Also unlike Mick, Rupert is a man who likes being married. In fact, he told her that very soon after they met and it went down well as Jerry craves security.’

They attended the Vanity Fair Oscars night party on Sunday night. One source said: ‘ They are very sweet together, in a little couple bubble. They act like a married couple already, talking over each other, holding hands.

‘She puts her feet up on his legs, they disagree on things like any married couple. She hates [Donald] Trump. He understands Trump. It’s been like that from the beginning.’

A HOME OF THEIR OWN

MURDOCH l i ves mostly at his €19 million vineyard retreat in Bel Air, however recently the happy couple have been spending time at Jerry’s former marital home in Richmond. Murdoch is apparently a regular sight in Richmond Park these days where he takes his daily constitutional walk.

It had been widely expected that they would want to buy a new home — both as a fresh start and because the Richmond house does not belong to Jerry.

She was simply allowed to stay in it under the terms of her separation from Mick — an allowance which comes to an end should Jerry marry or cohabit.

However, according to a source, a decision has been made that — no matter what the legal status — Jerry and Rupert are staying put. ‘It’s a beautiful house, why should she leave?’ said a pal.

It seems that Murdoch is happy to buy Mick out of the property if push comes to shove — and Jerry would probably not be displeased at that development.

Her former partner was notably ungallant in their separation, pointing out that the correct paperwork was never filed to make their Bali beach ceremony anything more than a gesture — an omission that saved him millions in their divorce.

THOSE TANGLED FAMILY TIES

THEY have ten children between them — he has six, Prudence, 53, James, 43, Lachlan, 44, Elisabeth, 47, Grace, 14 and Chloe, 12; she has four, Lizzy, 32, James, 30, Georgia May, 24 and Gabriel, 18 — and all are said to be involved in the church blessing today.

Grace and Chloe, his daughters by Wendi Deng, were yesterday spotted shopping i n London. Jerry’s younger daughter Georgia May, who is especially close to her mother — Jerry encouraged her to be a model — is said to be thrilled

SHORTLY after 11am today, former supermodel Jerry Hall, 59, will say ‘I do’ to 84-year-old media mogul Rupert Murdoch in front of politicians, media bigwigs and stars, setting the seal on a very unlikely romance. Technically, they became man and wife yesterday in a civil ceremony, but today the couple will have their union blessed in church. So who will be there? What will the bride wear? And why is Mick Jagger’s nose so very out of joint? ALISON BOSHOFF has the story . . .

by the match. She lives in London with her boyfriend, musician Josh McLellan.

Murdoch’s children Elisabeth, James and Lachlan are all big fans of Jerry.

AND MICK? HE’S ONE UNHAPPY EX!

MICK JAGGER was appalled when he heard that Jerry was to marry Rupert Murdoch — she did not warn him of t he announcement in advance. The Rolling Stone, 72, is said to be ‘ a bsolutely staggered and horrified’.

A friend of the star — who is currently in the middle of an extensive South American tour with the band, they play Lima, Peru, tomorrow — said: ‘He has been seething because t his means that Rupert Murdoch is going to become a part of his extended family, and Mick has a real problem with that.’

Why so? Lest we have f orgotten, i t was Murdoch’s tabloid newspaper, the Sun, which broke the news that Mick had fathered a baby by a Brazilian lingerie model, Luciana Morad.

It was that affair, of course, that ended his marriage to Jerry, now 59, cost him €13 million in a legal settlement, and led to him being kicked out of the family home in Richmond.

What’s more, Murdoch is wealthier and better connected than Mick, which comes as quite a blow to the legendary Jagger vanity.
