Judy doesn’t understand daughter’s selfie obsession

-

HER daughter has made a career for herself on social media, sharing fitness tips and body-baring photos with her 73,000 Instagram followers. But Judy Finnigan, 67, has confessed she doesn’t understand daughter Chloe Madeley’s obsession with selfies. Chloe, 28, frequently appears scantily clad on her Instagram account. The gym selfies and shots of Chloe in her underwear and skimpy sports kit support the mission of her business FitnessFondue.com, which encourages readers to lead a healthier life. But in a candid interview with The Guardian alongside husband of 30 years Richard, 59, Judy confessed she struggles to understand her daughter’s love of social media. She said: ‘It seems really strange to me, but I guess that’s the way things are now.’ Judy’s dislike of social media is also linked to tweeters who attacked her defence of former footballer and convicted rapist Ched Evans back in 2014. Judy sparked fury during her debut as a Loose Women panellist two years ago when she suggested Evans should be allowed to return to his club because the victim was ‘drunk’ and the rape was ‘unpleasant’ but ‘not violent’. But after a huge public backlash in which hundreds complained online about the ‘disgusting’ and ‘damaging’ remarks, she was eventually forced to ‘apologise unreservedly’ for the offence she had caused. Judy admitted in the latest interview that she still doesn’t understand the furore surrounding her comments, saying of the reaction: ‘I thought it was bloody ridiculous. ‘I was only quoting the trial judge. But as we all find with social media, these things run away.’
