A beauty treat for lady in your life

- BY DANNY MCELHINNEY

NATURALLY, being a city, Dublin can’t sell stunning views of a lake, the sea or mountains, like its rural rivals can, but with a little imagination it can easily tempt the visitor.

The 4* Radisson Blu has put together a package aimed at female groups; be they hen or prewedding parties or concertgoers.

The Radisson Blu offers a ‘Just For Girls’ package which includes a ‘Beauty Bootcamp’ and promises to treat the sisterhood like royalty for a day. My partner Jennifer agreed under little duress to a pampering with some other females...

After check-in to a spacious double room we went to the Sure Bar on the ground floor; a particularly nice touch is the 1916 Rising Proclamation written in gold on glass encasing the staircase in the atrium of the hotel.

There we were served Prosecco and afternoon tea on large slate and timber tiers. I chose the BBQ salmon and guacamole with dill pickle on traditional soda bread. Jennifer loved the smoked chicken, flavoured with a zingy country relish, asparagus and a pretzel bun. The afternoon tea can be served in either the chic Sky Suite, the 7th floor exclusive venue with panoramic views of the city or groups of less than six can be accommodated in the Presidential Suite.

After more Prosecco, I took off for the local gym and swimming pool, Iveagh Fitness Club on Bride Road, where I got complimentary access to its workout room and swimming pool. There is also a Jacuzzi, plunge pool and steam room.

You wouldn’t expect me to try to do justice to the Beauty Bootcamp so this is Jennifer’s account. Liz Dwyer, the founder of Beauty Bootcamp, talked us through the different available options to protect our skins in the summer and how to achieve that sun-kissed bronzed look.

Firstly, Liz went through the different options for achieving an all-over body tan. She talked us through the many gradual self-tans that are on

the market for both face and body. For the instant look, she showed us a way of mixing instant tan with oil to make it appear much more natural than with just the self-tan exclusively.

She then showed us the different bronzing make-up options such as the different techniques for creating the illusion of a natural glow without sun damage. Little tricks like a coral lipstick instead of blusher and altering your eye make-up to something softer were revelatory and we could see it with our own eyes.

We had great fun playing a party game trying to see which of us could apply lipstick most skilfully to another person while blindfolded. Some were surprisingly good and others more akin to The Joker in Batman!

As Jennifer attests, Beauty Bootcamp is ideal for bridal parties, birthdays, special occasions and girls who just want to have fun…

The package starts from €95pp. Contact the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel Dublin on 01-8982900 or Meetings.Royal.Dublin@RadissonBLU.com.
