Don’t let a condition get under your skin, help is now at hand

-

STILL can’t get rid of winter’s dry skin feeling? Believe it or not, almost two-thirds of us suffer from painful, annoying or uncomfortable skin conditions. This makes almost half of us (48%) self-conscious about our appearance, while one-quarter of those affected have resigned themselves to never finding a cure for their ailments. Skin Health Month is a new initiative by La Roche-Posay to help people find answers to any problems they might have. And for the next four weeks, pharmacies taking part in the campaign will be offering free consultations from an advisor to recommend a skincare regime, if needed.

The most common condition reported is dry skin and eczema (52%). And women are significantly more likely to suffer skin conditions than men. Almost three in four women (72%) confess they have issues with their skin, compared with just less than half (45%) of men.

Skin complaints were most common among 18– 24 year olds, with more than four in five (85%) saying they experienced difficulties from teenage spots to other ailments.

When it comes to treatment, while many people (43%) say that since finding the right products they have their skin condition under control, almost a fifth (17%) say they still have to find the right skincare routine. And a quarter (25%) of sufferers think they will have to live with their condition.

Men are more likely to believe they have to put up with their ailment forever, with 35% admitting this is the case, compared with less than one in five women (19%).

The good news is there’s now help at hand as for the full month of March, there’s the chance to seek help for free from an expert. The campaign aims to help people find what they need to sort out those minor issues.
