Lucky Laois sees two Lotto wins in one week

- By Ciara Mooney

COUNTY Laois is on a lucky streak with two Lotto winners in one week.

On Tuesday, one lucky punter scooped €500,000 after winning the EuroMillions Plus prize. The ticket was bought in Tom Treacy’s Daybreak store in Emo, Portlaoise, Co Laois.

The winning ticket was a single line €3.50 quick pick purchased on the day of the draw.

Shop owner Mr Treacy said there is a great buzz and excitement in the town since the big win, pointing out it’s the second big win the shop has seen – as a €250,000 ticket was sold in the store just over two years ago.

Mr Treacy also said he hopes the winner is a local from the town rather that someone passing through.

Separately, a lucky Laois resident had a very happy Easter when she discovered she had won €250,000 on the Lotto Plus Jackpot.

The woman, from Abbeyleix in Co. Laois, discovered she had the winning ticket after her son read on his Facebook news feed that the ticket had been sold in their local shop, Clelands Supermarket.

The woman, who is keeping her win private, said: ‘I checked the numbers with my son and discovered that I had won.

‘The excitement was something else, I went into pure shock. I rang my husband straight away, but he didn’t believe me at all, and just asked what time dinner was at!’

The ecstatic winner called into the Lotto headquarters in Dublin yesterday to pick up her winnings.

She said: ‘I had the whole family over for Easter dinner that day, all the kids and grandchildren and it was just fantastic.

‘We are all looking forward to enjoying the prize as a family, and putting it to good use in the coming weeks.’
