How Caitriona managed to Trump Charlie
CORRESPONDENT OF THE WEEK: Charlie Bird didn’t enjoy being RTÉ’s Washington correspondent, he admitted after he left the job. He was used to being a public figure here, greeted on the streets and on firstname terms with taoisigh, but nobody knew him there. Meanwhile, there’s Caitriona Perry, perfectly happy to do her job without fanfare, and just because her ‘nice smile’ caught President Trump’s eye, pictured, she’s suddenly the most famous White House reporter of all. Newspapers across the globe ran pictures of her looking like a movie star on the Oscars red carpet in a silver beaded gown, and breathlessly recounted her love of Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Maybe Charlie should have cheered up and smiled more?
