DÚSHLÁN 1881 – LIVING THE EVICTION, 8PM, TG4
HISTORY is too often presented as a dry subject, bearing little relation to the lives we lead now. Which is why this series, which takes 21st-Century families and places them in the conditions experienced by their ancestors, is particularly interesting. Dúshlán 1881 focuses on the events of December of that year when 13 families were evicted from their homes at Carrowmenagh, Co. Donegal. More than a century later, surviving relatives of those turned out onto the side of the road have travelled back to this corner of the northwest to reconnect with their own past. Tonight, as the families (pictured) come to the end of their spell in Carrowmenagh, they learn even more about the lives of their greatgreat-great-grandparents.
