FABRE EYES REPEAT

-

LEGENDARY French trainer Andre Fabre will bid to repeat the 2005 Irish Derbywinning heroics of Hurricane Run when he saddles Waldgeist in today’s renewal at the Curragh. And an ever-shortening price in the last few days indicates that support is growing for the Frenchman to bag another famous Classic win. The similarities between Hurricane Run — who provided Fabre with his last winner in the race 12 years ago — and Waldgeist are striking. Waldgeist will carry the same colours of German owner Dietrich von Boetticher’s Gestut Ammerland stud that Hurricane Run did, and like Hurricane Run he will line up at the Curragh on the back of finishing runnerup in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly. Stepping up to a mile and a half at the Curragh worked a charm for the big French hope in 2005 and Fabre believes the track and the expected pace of the race will suit his talented charge well. And with last year’s winning jockey Pat Smullen booked to take the ride, Waldgeist looks the one to get behind.
