Achtung Baby! U2 star Adam is a first-time father at 57
IT’S a case of U2 becoming U3 for Adam Clayton and his wife.
The bassist revealed yesterday that he has become a first-time father – at the age of 57.
Adam and Mariana Teixeira De Carvalho are now the proud parents of a baby girl.
The couple, who tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in Dublin in September 2013, confirmed the happy news by taking out a personal ad in the Irish Times yesterday.
‘Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl, Alba,’ the notice read.
The rhythm king’s official announcement comes two weeks after Bono let slip on stage, during U2’s two-night stint in London’s Twickenham Stadium, that Adam and his Brazilian other half were preparing for a little addition.
It is not known if baby Alba was born in Ireland or when she arrived, but no doubt she will be spending time on Irish shores with her doting parents over the coming months. Clayton still has a home in Dublin, but it’s believed he does not live here on a year-round basis.
Following their sold-out homecoming concert in Croke Park on the European leg of The Joshua Tree tour, U2 will perform this week in Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels before enjoying a month-long break with their families.
The tour will re-launch in North America on September 3, with a return to Detroit.
The city holds a special significance for U2: the Pontiac Silverdome was where they played their first ever headline stadium show back in 1987 during the original Joshua Tree Tour.
No doubt it’s going to be a busy year for Clayton personally as he and his wife adapt to life with their little girl.
