High Court orders trad music star Sharon not to ‘obstruct’ receiver in selling cottage

- By Paul Caffrey

A HIGH Court judge yesterday told musician Sharon Shannon to stop ‘obstructing’ a receiver’s work in selling off her cottage over a €500,000 debt.

The trad music star had hired an auctioneer to sell Poet’s Corner, a house she owns in east Co. Galway, after she and her manager were sued over the debt.

Yesterday, a receiver appointed by Cheldon Property Finance to sell the house asked the High Court to make Ms Shannon and manager John Dunford – together with remaining occupants of the cottage – to ‘cease and desist from interfering with the receivership’.

Ms Shannon sat in the rear of the court as Mr Dunford told Judge Leonie Reynolds they would not ‘interfere with’ the functions of the receiver, and would inform the auctioneer they could not proceed with a sale. year, receiver Ken Tyrrell was appointed with a view to selling the property, worth about €275,000, in Craughwell.

Yesterday, the court heard that Ms Shannon and her manager had ‘disputed’ the validity of the receivership.

In a written statement, Mr Dunford said he wanted to ‘point out forcefully’ that neither he nor Ms Shannon had interfered with the receivership ‘in the way set out’ by the receiver in court.

However, Mr Dunford did agree with Judge Reynolds that a Galway auctioneer had operated ‘under your instructions to sell this property’.

Mr Dunford agreed in court, after conferring with Ms Shannon, that neither he nor the accordion player would ‘interfere with the property in any way’ pending the outcome of a court case being taken by the receiver against them and two other individuals.

Judge Reynolds ordered that any marketing of the property would have to be removed by 5pm today. And she warned Mr Dunford and Ms Shannon that they would be in breach of a court order if they interfered with the work of the receiver.
