KEANE: INDIA MOVE SUPER

- DAVID SNEYD

ROBBIE KEANE is hoping to enjoy an Indian summer to his playing career after joining Atletico de Kolkata. The Indian Super League club are managed by his former Tottenham team-mate Teddy Sheringham and will be the 11th side the Dubliner has played for professionally since joining Wolves as a teenager 21 years ago. Now 37, Keane has opted to continue his travels after several months at home training and coaching with Shamrock Rovers. ‘I feel extremely fortunate to have played for some of the best clubs in England and the USA, as well as representing my country at several major tournaments,’ the former international said. ‘At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed to me. ‘To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hard work I hope to bring the ATK fans more success and enjoyment over the course of the 2017/2018 season.’ The campaign, which kicks off in November and runs until May, is Keane’s first since leaving LA Galaxy at the end of 2016 following six trophyladen seasons in California. Elsewhere, centre back Kevin Long has agreed a new threeand-a-half-year contract with Burnley. The recently-capped Ireland international is now the longestserving player at the Premier League club and following Michael Keane’s £30 million move to Everton he is aiming to nail down a regular starting place. ‘Hopefully in the next three years I can play a lot more and go from strength to strength,’ the 27-year-old said.
