THE 400m heats start at 10.45am today, kicking off the title defence of Wayde van Niekerk (right), the world and Olympic champion and world recordholder at the distance. Assuming he has no problems, his semi-final is at 7.40pm tomorrow.

THE Jamaican is Olympic champion at 100m and 200m. She starts her 100m campaign at 11.45am.

THE long jump final is at 8.05pm today. Manyong, Olympic silver medallist from South Africa, is favourite having overcome an addiction to crystal meth.

IRELAND’S best medal hope runs his heat in the 400m hurdles, with the first round starting at 11.05 tomorrow. He will aim to be in the groove that took him to a stunning 4th place finish in RIo.
