THOMAS Barr was due to leave quarantine in London last night as newly arriving Irish team members will be moved to a new hotel. Barr, Ireland’s biggest hope for a medal in London 2017, withdrew from the 400m hurdles semi-final on Monday having suffered from gastroente­ritis. Health England confirmed via a statement yesterday that an outbreak of Norovirus, commonly known as the winter vomiting bug had impacted the Tower Hotel. A confirmed total of 30 athletes and officials are suffering/suffered with symptoms of the virus, although Barr was the only member of the Irish team infected. The remaining Irish Athletes were moved to a new team hotel following a request by Athletics Ireland. The virus has impacted more heavily on members of the Canadian and German teams who are both located in the Guoman Tower Hotel. The majority of the small Irish team have now competed at London 2017, with just four remaining; race walkers Brendan Boyce, Alex Wright and Rob Heffernan will arrive in London tomorrow ahead of racing on the final day while Siofra Cleirigh Buttner is the next Irish athlete in action in the 800m tomorrow evening. FRENCHMAN PierreAmbr­oise Bosse, 25, was the surprise winner of the 800m, holding on for victory in 1 minute 44.67. Adam Kszczot snatched the silver with Kenyan teenager Kipyegon Bett finishing third in 1:45.21 ahead of ahead of Nijel Amos (Botswana), the third fastest man ever, and former champion Mohammed Aman. BARBORA Spotakova, 36, of the Czech Republic regained the javelin world title she first won 10 years ago. The world record holder threw 66.76 metres on her second attempt in the final. CONSESLUS Kipruto continued Kenya’s dominance of the 3,000 metres steeplecha­se with victory last night in a time of 8 minutes 14.12 seconds. The east African nation has now won 12 out of the 15 editions of the race in World Championsh­ips history.
