BACKGROUND: Verbraeken signed up for a military career in his native Belgium at 18, entering civilian life eight years later with the country’s biggest retail bank. Hobbies include cycling and skiing. Enjoys hillwalkin­g with his wife. Listens to classical music but also likes ‘dance music that my daughters pass me’.

He said in a recent interview: ‘My heroes, and this is showing my age, would probably be Bob Dylan, Bruce Springstee­n and Van Morrison.’

KBC’S ACTION ON THE TRACKER ISSUE TO DATE: KBC is alone among the State’s top five lenders in not having given an indication of how many of its customers are impacted by the tracker issue. The lender, which has about a 10% share of the mortgage market, also declined to tell the Oireachtas finance committee on September 28 how much money it has ring-fenced to tackle the problem. The Central Bank has launched an enforcemen­t investigat­ion into the bank.
