Ruff justice: Gardaí find 14 puppies in SUV

- By Naomi McElroy

THESE tiny puppies were yesterday recovering after being found cowering inside plastic containers where they were discovered by immigration gardaí in an SUV at a busy port.

Gardaí at Rosslare Europort in Co. Wexford seized the 14 helpless pups after finding them in the back of an SUV on Thursday night.

An Garda Síochána’s official Twitter account confirmed the dogs have now been handed over to the Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to be rehomed.

The tweet read: ‘Dog ruff! Pups seized last night at Rosslare Port by gardaí on immigration duty.

‘Concealed in back of a jeep.

‘Handed over to the WSPCA.’

The puppies are all fashionable designer crossbreeds, either cavachons, a mix of bichon frise and cavalier King Charles spaniel, or cockapoos – a cross between cocker spaniels and poodles.

The dogs have been seen by a vet and are all said to be in good health – however, they are still traumatised by their ordeal.

A spokesman for the WSPCA confirmed that the puppies, thought to be aged between six and eight weeks, will soon be ready to be adopted into new homes. A post on the charity’s Facebook page last night read: ‘Pups seized in Rosslare last night will be up for rehoming in two to three weeks time.’
