Four twins, one birthday... 7 smiles
A COUPLE are seeing double on the double after welcoming their second set of twins into the world – and they share the same birthday as their older sisters.
Séamus and Elizabeth Doherty, from Moville, Co. Donegal, had their second set of twins on Tuesday of this week.
Sienna and Travis were born at Letterkenny University Hospital ahead of their due date, and now they share a birthday with their sisters Samera and Tameka – also twins.
Four-year-olds Samera and Tameka were born on October 17, 2013, and Travis and Sienna came into the world on October 17 2017. Mother Elizabeth went into labour at home on Tuesday, despite the new twins not being due until October 23. No sooner was she in the maternity ward of LUH than she was taken for an emergency C-section.
Both babies were born healthy and their mother is doing well. Their delighted father said he now imagines future birthday parties are going to be ‘mayhem’.
Mechanic Mr Doherty said: ‘When we got closer to the due date, we thought it would be nice if they were born on the same date. I said it would be a nice wish come true.
‘But what are the chances? Now we’ll have four birthday parties at the same time.
‘It will be great to get them all over in the one day, but it will be mayhem.’
He added that the twins’ grandmother had joked that ‘she’ll have to take out a mortgage for Octobers’ because of all the birthdays they’ll be celebrating that month.
Mr Doherty said he believes the identical dates are a pure coincidence. Their eldest boy Torin, seven, was also an autumn baby, having been born on September 27.
Torin, Samera and Tameka are all excited to have two new siblings. ‘They can’t wait to get them home to start feeding them,’ Mr Doherty said. ‘It’s like a wheelbarrow now, it’s all in front of us.’
