What about ye? English viewers can’t understand poor Nadine

-

SHE has never tried to hide her Derry roots in all the years that she was with chart sensations Girls Aloud. And it looks as though Nadine Coyle never will – even if UK television viewers believe it has now become a strange Northern Irish-Californian hybrid.

Twitter was awash with comments about not being able to understand the 34-year-old’s bizarre accent when she appeared on yesterday’s Loose Woman on ITV.

Nadine, pictured, has been living in Los Angeles for the last eight years with her family.

One viewer joked, ‘Needed the subtitles on for her accent’, while another jested: ‘Nadine Coyle’s accent makes her sound like Dolly Parton keeps possessing her for a second then it goes back to normal.’

A third queried: ‘Now what is wrong with your voice, hideous, American Irish twang.’

Even the Loose Women appeared baffled when she first arrived on set, asking, ‘Eh?’ after Nadine breezily asked them how they were doing.

Explaining her quirky lilt though, Nadine said: ‘I’m from a very small town, so it’s not a typical Northern Irish accent. There’s really not a lot of people talking with my accent.’

Fans were quick to pick up on her comment, with one joking, ‘I’d say NO ONE from northern ireland speaks like Nadine Coyle lol.’

Nadine, who is making a music comeback, also dismissed the muchdiscussed stories about her and Cheryl Cole not getting along.

Put on the spot and asked what she would say if she were in the same room as the pop princess, Nadine laughed and replied: ‘Say hello!

‘I’d say, “Hello, how are you doing?” She has a young baby, I have a daughter. I know what it’s like when they’re that age.’

Nadine raises daughter Anaíya, three, with her American partner Jason Bell, 36, while Cheryl welcomed baby son Bear in March 2017 with her boyfriend Liam Payne, 24.

The Call The Shots singer was also quizzed about whether being in a girl band was a catty experience, and while she insisted they never physically fought, she hinted things weren’t always harmonious.

‘When you’re part of the group, girls get the bad reputation, boys are just as bad. Boys will want to fight it out’, she began.

Asked whether they had physically fought, Nadine replied: ‘No way! No way! That’s definitely not in my personality.’

Since Girls Aloud split in 2013, Cheryl has remained BFFs with bandmates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, but drifted apart from Nadine and Sarah Harding.
