Salma: My torment at sex scene bullying by Weinstein
SALMA Hayek has revealed how she had a breakdown and was forced take a tranquilliser to get through a nude lesbian sex scene demanded by Harvey Weinstein. She claimed the disgraced film producer ‘hated… the word no’ and in a bid to control her on another occasion threatened: ‘I will kill you – don’t think I can’t.’
Weinstein is being investigated by police in the US, Britain and France after dozens of women accused him of sexual misconduct, including at least three alleged rapes, going back decades.
Ms Hayek’s revelations came in an article for The New York Times in which she said disgraced producer Weinstein constantly propositioned her and turned nasty when she said no.
Through his firm Miramax Film, he was producing the 2002 movie Frida, a biopic of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, played by Mexican-born Ms Hayek, who was also co-producer.
She said that in the run-up to the production she had rebuffed numerous propositions by Weinstein, including taking a shower with him and letting him perform a sex act on her.
Ms Hayek, 51, wrote that as the film went into production, Weinstein said she had to do a full frontal sex scene with the character Tina Modotti, played by Ashley Judd, or he would axe the film.
The actress said she shook uncontrollably during the scene, crying and vomiting repeatedly, and had to take a tranquilliser to do it.
The film won two Oscars, but Ms Hayek said she remained ‘terrified’ of Weinstein for years.
