Orange warning as Dylan to hit with 120kph gusts

STORM Dylan will make its wrath felt today with gusts of up to 120kph expected in some parts of the country.

A status orange wind warning and a status yellow wind and snow-ice warning are in place for various parts of the country, ending tomorrow morning.

Met Éireann expects Storm Dylan to affect Ireland tonight and early tomorrow morning.

The national forecaster said the storm will track northeastw­ards through Donegal Bay and up along the north-Ulster coast.

The biggest impact from the storm will be felt in Connacht and Ulster, where mean winds will reach speeds of 60-80kph with gusts of up to 120kph.

The status orange warning extends to Connacht, as well as to counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Westmeath and Meath.

Elsewhere, a status yellow warning is in place in the capital, Munster, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Offaly.

In these counties, Met Éireann predicts southwest winds from Storm Dylan will reach mean speeds of up to 65kph with gusts of up to 100kph tonight and into Sunday morning.

Generally, today will be bright, blustery and cold with occasional heavy showers. Tonight will be wet and windy with a high risk of stormy conditions developing, and damaging gusts in places.
