PROBLEM: Deep-set SOLUTION: False lashes and shimmer

SHE SAYS: A boy at school used to tease me about my eye make-up, which admittedly might have been applied with a bit of a heavy hand!
‘Did you fall into your makeup bag?’ he would shout across the yard.
Those comments left me with an indifference to my brown eyes, and I still wear the same Boots own-brand eyeliner and mascara I did 20 years ago. Putting on a bit more eyeliner is about the extent of my party make-up!
My eyes are too deep set, anyway, and I messed up my eyebrows in my early 40s when I went through a phase of threading. I’m left with unfashionably thin arches.

Intensive Skin Serum Concealer (€38, arnotts.ie), which is fantastic for older skin.
Rayne blinked a lot when I was applying the make-up, so I used a Lola Precision Pen Eyeliner (€9.50, lolamakeup.com) with a fine tip, so any mistakes were easy to correct. I also smudged a little under her eyes.
The secret with deep-set eyes is to use shades that reflect light — and avoid putting dark shades in the crease. So I’ve used Charlotte Tilbury Palette in Dolce Vita all over the lid.
A subtle set of false eyelashes (Ardell in Faux Mink, €10.49, boots.ie) further opened up Rayne’s eyes. Her eyebrows have a nice arch, so I simply filled them out using the High Definition Browtec (€22.95, lookfantastic.com).
