KANE CASHES IN
Spurs striker to be top paid English star
TOTTENHAM are ready to make Harry Kane the highest paid Englishman in the Premier League.
With Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling currently the best paid English player on £180,000 a week, Spurs face splashing out up to £200,000 a week to keep their striker.
Kane’s current £110,000-a-week basic salary ranks him only equal 35th in the list of the League’s highest-earning stars, as
Sportsmail revealed last week, and there is an acceptance Kane’s salary no longer reflects his global standing in the game.
The 24-year-old is already Spurs’ top earner, having signed a new contract tying him until 2022 in December 2016. He also has a good bonus structure, but the striker takes home considerably less each week than many other England internationals.
Sterling’s team-mate Kyle Walker’s basic weekly salary is around £130,000 at the Etihad Stadium while Daniel Sturridge commands £150,000 at Liverpool. Even
defender Luke Shaw earns £130,000 at Manchester United. Kane’s £110,000 a week puts him on a par with the likes of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Young of Manchester United, but the Spurs striker’s earnings remain modest compared to the Premier League’s best paid stars, Manchester United pair Paul Pogba (£290,000) and Romelu Lukaku (£250,000). Spurs have a history of rewarding their stars with regular pay rises based on their performances. However, Kane’s astonishing 56-goal haul in 2017 will force the club to break their stringent wage structure and reward him with a contract far closer to £200,000 a week. The striker is also confident he can enhance his profile this summer by enjoying a successful World Cup in Russia next summer with England, while Spurs are aware of growing interest from mega rich clubs like Real Madrid.
