Dolores to be buried alongside father

- By Seán Dunne

DOLORES O’Riordan is to be laid to rest beside her father on the family plot in Caherelly Cemetery, near her hometown of Friarstown, Co. Limerick, next week.

The Cranberries frontwoman’s remains are expected to arrive in Limerick within the next few days following her sudden death at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane in London on Monday. She will be buried alongside her father Terence who died aged 68 from cancer in 2011.

Speaking to the Limerick Leader the singer’s mother, Eileen, thanked all who showed their support and who had queued to sign a book of condolence, describing the gesture as a ‘huge source of comfort’.

Local priest Fr James Walton told the Irish Daily Mail yesterday that the family wished for her funeral service to be held at his church, St Ailbe’s.

‘I met Dolores when she came to the church with her mother. There were no airs and graces about her being a celebrity and all that. She was a perfectly nice woman and blended into the church,’ he said.

The Limerick priest said the 46year-old singer’s family had been praying together regularly for her. Fr Walton said he had visited the family several times and that the singer’s mother had installed a framed photo of her daughter in her house, which was illuminated by a candle.

He said Dolores’s family remained ‘clueless’ about how the singer had died.

The Westminster coroner is leading the investigation into the singer’s death. The results of a postmortem are set to be released in the coming days.
