London show they have what it takes to go places

- PAUL KEANE

CARLOW and Laois continue to lead Division 4, locked together at the head of affairs with 100 per cent records, but it’s London that are quickly emerging as the big story. Fresh from pushing Carlow hard, and beating Wicklow by near double scores, the Exiles pulled off an excellent draw with Limerick yesterday, 2-8 to 2-8. Limerick lost their opening two games so had to win to stand any chance of a promotion challenge and duly led by three deep into injurytime. Josh Ryan’s goal for Limerick late in normal time and a Seamus O’Carroll point left them with that three-point advantage. But Billy Lee’s men were unable to seal the deal as Anthony McDermott popped up six minutes into injury-time with a dramatic equalising goal. It was a day of draws in the bottom tier as Antrim and Wicklow split 24 points evenly between them in a 0-12 to 0-12 stalemate. Wicklow’s Round 2 loss in London means they’re promotion outsiders but yesterday’s draw was a big setback for a fancied Antrim side who are now stuck on five points, one behind Carlow and Laois. Wicklow showed their mettle by stealing a draw with a Rory Finn equaliser despite being reduced to 13 men following the dismissals of Seanie Furlong and Theo Smyth. CJ McGourty thought he’d won it for the Saffrons at Corrigan Park though Wicklow denied them. Carlow and Laois were both in action on Saturday, securing wins over Leitrim and Waterford respectively.
