Kylie reveals she’s a Banner County girl
CLARE should be so lucky... as pop singer Kylie Minogue has revealed that her family are from the Banner County.
In an interview with Evoke.ie, the Loco-Motion diva said her name can be traced back to the townland of Ballyminogue in Scariff, Co. Clare.
The Australian pop princess also reveals her grá for Ireland and Irish audiences.
Recounting the fun she had the last time she played Dublin, she said: ‘Irish audiences are great – you’re loud, you’re up for the most fun night.
‘Last time I played Dublin, there was a little joke, I don’t even know how it started. [But] I was singing In Your Eyes as if it was a cover [in an Irish accent]. I think everyone laughed.
‘Everyone loves going to Ireland, I even had a Guinness, just a little one. I don’t think I could drink a whole pint.’
Kylie has said her new album Golden, which is due out this Friday, will have a distinctive ‘country feel’, which is no surprise given she recorded it in the heartland of the American country and western scene, Nashville, Tennessee.
Her new direction is sure to please a number of Irish country fans and the singer goes on to praise the Irish line dancing scene, which has grown in popularity here, as she discusses how difficult a style of dancing it is to master. ‘You guys have a headstart on the line dancing in Ireland,’ said Kylie, who turns 50 in May. ‘I have a whole new appreciation for it. It’s hard work... It was a good workout.’
