Davina used night-time feeds to ‘punish’ husband

-

DAVINA McCall has said having children put a huge strain on her marriage to Matthew Robertson – with her taking revenge on him when their eldest daughter Holly arrived.

The presenter, who announced she was splitting from her husband of 17 years last November, admitted she wanted to ‘punish’ her other half by keeping him up during their firstborn’s night-time feeds.

This led to the pair, left, sleeping in separate beds when they had two more children.

Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, she said: ‘I remember him going to the pub and I was going, “Oh I will come... oh no I won’t, the baby’s upstairs.”

‘With Holly I wanted to punish Matthew in some way and keep him up. So we slept in the same bed and with the feeds I would turn the light on and change the nappy. You know – bedside light, do the feed, change nappy and think, well I am very sorry if you are asleep.’

She continued: ‘With the second and the third one we’d fall asleep in the bed together and with the midnight feed he’d go off and sleep in the spare room, which sounds selfish. Guy gets to go to sleep.’

Davina also revealed she has been ‘brutally honest’ with her three children; Holly, 16, Tilly, 14, and Chester, 11, about her past as a drug addict. ‘They grew up with, “Mummy’s going to a meeting” – they just didn’t know it was a Narcotics Anonymous meeting,’ she said. ‘They were all really very accepting. They’d say, “We thought it was something like that. Is that why you don’t drink?”’

The former Big Brother presenter, 50, has spoken openly about battling drugs in her late teens, and previously said a friend was the one who pushed her to get clean.
