MAN CITY (3-1-4-2) TEAM AVERAGE 6.36

EDERSON 6 Didn’t have a save to make for 40 minutes and should have held on to the ball for equaliser. KYLE WALKER 6.5 Started on right side of back three, meaning he could not get forward as much as he likes. NICOLAS OTAMENDI 5.5 Solid in the first half, but was guilty of giving the ball away for Liverpool’s killer second. AYMERIC LAPORTE 5 Vulnerable on the left again, particularly when Mane cut through City for the equaliser. FERNANDINHO 7 Brilliant through-ball for the opener proved once again that he is more than just midfield stopper. BERNARDO SILVA 6.5 Full of tricks on the right and twice went close to a goal before half-time. One effort hit the post. KEVIN DE BRUYNE 7 Drove City forward time and again, although tried to force his passes a little too much on occasion. DAVID SILVA 6 A quiet night by his standards. First to come off when Guardiola sent on Aguero to chase game. LEROY SANE 7 Constant threat, going on the outside or drifting inside. Unlucky to have a crucial goal chalked off. RAHEEM STERLING 7 Lively in a more central role against his old club, and assisted heavily on the opening goal. GABRIEL JESUS 6.5 Preferred up front to Aguero and never looked likely to miss his chance inside two minutes.

SUBSTITUTES

Aguero (D Silva 66min, 6), Gundogan (B Silva 74, 6). Not used: Bravo, Kompany, Foden, Zinchenko, Delph.

PEP GUARDIOLA 4 Bold decision to go with a back three, but let his team down by needlessly getting himself sent to the stands at half-time for abusing the referee.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 6.68

LORIS KARIUS 6.5 Recovered well from early goal, escaped risky decision to come out and punch just before break. TRENT A-ARNOLD 6.5 Had his hands full with Sane, but stuck to his task well despite being on a yellow card for an hour. DEJAN LOVREN 7 Typically threw his body in front of everything and made some great interceptions. VIRGIL VAN DIJK 6 Could argue he was fouled in the build-up to the first goal, but his hesitation let Sterling in. ANDY ROBERTSON 7 Stood strong in his duel with Bernardo and read the danger well when Liverpool were rocking. ALEX OX-CHAMBERLAIN 6 Looked certain to add to his goal from the first leg from Liverpool’s best move, but blazed over. GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM 6 In for the suspended Henderson, but had his work cut out in midfield against rampaging City. JAMES MILNER 7 Many questioned his decision to quit City for Liverpool, but played a huge role here. MOHAMED SALAH 6.5 City couldn’t keep Klopp’s star man quiet for the whole game and he came up with a decisive goal. ROBERTO FIRMINO 8 Never stopped working and was rewarded with the goal that confirmed a place in the semi-finals. SADIO MANE 7 Tireless performance got him into trouble, but he was the catalyst for the priceless first goal.

SUBSTITUTES

Klavan (Firmino 81min), Clyne (Alexander-Arnold 84), Ings (Salah 88). Not used: Mignolet, Romero, Solanke, Woodburn.

JURGEN KLOPP 7 The German coach deserves huge praise for how Liverpool have played over the two legs, getting one over on Guardiola once again.

REFEREE ANTONIO MATEU LAHOZ 5 The decision to chalk off a second goal for City was a big turning point.
