‘At 25, my cancer is terminal. The HPV vaccine saves lives. It could’ve saved mine’

- By Amy Mulvaney

LAURA Brennan, a 25-year-old woman who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, will appear on The Late Late Show tonight.

She will join Ryan Tubridy to tell viewers her story, and talk about why she strongly believes young girls should be vaccinated against the HPV virus, one of the chief causes of cervical cancer.

The Clare woman is fronting the HSE’s latest HPV vaccination campaign, and contacted the authority after being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016.

‘I am only 25 but there is no treatment that will cure my cancer, only treatment that will now prolong my life,’ she previously said.

‘The reality is that now there is a vaccine that protects girls from getting this horrible disease.’

Laura is now urging young girls and women to get the HPV vaccine after she did not get it herself, as it wasn’t available in schools when she was a teenager.

‘If anything good comes from my situation, I hope that parents consider this: get the facts, get informed and make the decision to get their daughters vaccinated,’ she said. ‘The HPV vaccine saves lives. It could have saved mine.’

Figures released by the HSE show that 300 Irish women get cervical cancer every year, and 90 of those women will die from the illness.

Meanwhile, Irish actor and Hollywood sensation Barry Keoghan will also take to the couch for the show, as well as UK style maven Trinny Woodall. The man behind new nature series, Ireland’s Deep Atlantic, Ken O’Sullivan, will also be joining Tubridy, while Kodaline will perform their latest single.

‘No treatment to cure me’

TONIGHT Laura Brennan will appear on The Late Late Show. She is 25 and is terminally ill with cervical cancer.

Her objective is to plead for the vaccination of all girls so her cruel fate can be avoided by others.

We applaud Laura’s courage and we hope she will convince wavering parents of the necessity of the vaccine.
