AN ASPIRING actor who starred in Love/Hate was last night critically ill in hospital after what is believed to be an accidental drug overdose at Mountjoy prison.

Daniel Doyle, 31, was found unresponsive when jail staff unlocked his cell at 8.05am yesterday.

First aid was given at the scene by staff and he was then taken to the nearby Mater Hospital in Dublin.

Prison staff believe he had been taking drugs. He remained in a critical condition in hospital last night. In February Doyle admitted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of ecstasy tablets for sale or supply at his home on November 12, 2014. He was jailed for a year.

He was previously jailed for two years in 2007 for possession of cocaine and shotgun cartridges.

Doyle had featured during the fifth series of RTÉ’s gangland drama Love/Hate when the show was filmed on location in his native Ballymun. He had a minor non-speaking role during his various appearances.

Doyle, of Balcurris Park West, Dublin, has worked as a fitness model with the Assets agency.

In May 2010 he was set upon as he left The Blacker nightspot in Coolock, north Dublin, and was stabbed. In February 2011 he was knifed after getting a taxi from the same club. In all he was stabbed 13 times and had 138 stitches.

Detective Ronan McMorrow told the court last February gardaí obtained a warrant to search a house after a tip-off about cocaine dealing. Doyle answered the door and told gardaí he knew why they were there.

He handed over €985 from his pocket. He also removed from his underpants a bag of 446 tablets and a bag containing €600.

The tablets were identified as MDMA, also known as ecstasy, the court heard.
