Fostering a new approach to the GAA, Arlene?
ARLENE Foster has met members of the Fermanagh GAA team ahead of the Ulster county final against Donegal next weekend.
Speculation is now mounting the DUP leader may attend for what could be her home county’s first ever Ulster title.
Ms Foster, pictured, said she’d had a ‘lovely welcome’ from the team and management during Saturday evening’s encounter at the Lough Erne resort near Enniskillen. She said: ‘I might not have had many tips for them – but a lovely welcome from the team and management. It’s Fermanagh’s year.’
There was controversy last year when James Brokenshire became the first Northern Ireland secretary to attend a GAA game in the North.
Next Saturday’s final will be played just south of the border – in Clones, Co. Monaghan – avoiding a potential unionist backlash if Ms Foster opts to attend and stand for Amhrán na bh-Fiann.
Fermanagh Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew said: ‘If Arlene was at the match it would send a very positive signal to everybody.’
