A PENSIONER has been found dead on a Cork roadside after a suspected hit-and-run.

The 67-year-old man’s body was discovered yesterday morning on the side of the road connecting Castlecor to John’s Bridge in Ballybane, Liscarroll in north Cork.

Gardaí in Mallow are appealing for witnesses who travelled the route between 10pm on Saturday night and 10am yesterday to come forward.

The incident was the second suspected hit-andrun within a 48-hour period. Late on Friday, a 32-year-old man died after being struck by a car in Longford. The incident happened on the N4 at Deerpark near Newtownforbes. He was named as local man Craig McDermott.

Although the car did not stop, a man in his 20s later came forward and is helping gardaí with their inquiries.
