Match Story

THE failure of Galway to cope with Roscommon’s packed defence saw them harassed out of possession repeatedly. The tactics they have turned on others were used against them.

ROSCOMMON were working the blanket at both ends in the first half. Not only were they frustrating Galway, but they showed patience and struck for a goal through Ciarán Murtagh (right).

DESPITE enjoying a strong wind in the second period though, Roscommon couldn’t build on the advantage they put together in the first half, as Shane Walsh and Ian Burke thrived.

GALWAY’S bench was also decisive, as Sean Armstrong, Adrian Varley and Eoghan Kerin tightened their play at both ends of the field. Roscommon had no comparable quality to bring on.
