- By Ali Bracken and Seán Dunne

A TEENAGER who stabbed a homeless man to death had been drinking beer with him in a park before he ‘turned on him’, the Mail can reveal.

Adam Muldoon, 23, was stabbed more than ten times in his head, neck and torso by the 17-year-old, sources said.

Described as a ‘gentle’ and ‘kind’ man who had endured a difficult life, Mr Muldoon’s body was discovered lying among beer cans in a Dublin park at 6.30am on Saturday.

Gardaí yesterday arrested a ‘juvenile male’ for the killing.

THE teenager who stabbed tragic Adam Muldoon to death was drinking with him and a small group of others before he ‘turned on him’.

The 17-year-old, understood to be a Tallaght native, stabbed Mr Muldoon, 23, more than ten times in his head, neck and torso, sources said.

They described the dead man as a ‘well-liked and very gentle’ person who’d had a particularly tragic life.

His mother committed suicide when he was ten years old and he was placed in State care where he developed a condition which left him with a limp as an adult.

He slept rough occasionally – but never in Butler Park, where he was killed, and gardaí suspect he went there to enjoy a few drinks with some friends.

The spot where he was found dead by a dog walker was littered with beer cans.

Mr Muldoon, who was also known by the nickname Floater, sometimes stayed at his aunt’s home in Tallaght and was well known in the area.

His last known address was at a hostel in Dublin.

He was so well liked in Tallaght that people would often donate to him their cars that were only fit for scrap for him to sleep in.

A source said: ‘Everyone liked him. He was a gentle and kind sort. He had a very difficult life.

‘But he never caused trouble and had no enemies. He certainly would not have been the aggressor in this row.’

Mr Muldoon’s body was found at around 6.30am on Saturday in the park off the Cheeverstown Road.

A Garda spokesperson said: ‘We believe he may have been sleeping rough in the general area from time to time.

‘I would like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the park between 11pm on Friday and 6.30am on Saturday – and to any motorists who may have been travelling along the Cheeverstown Road – who may have information to offer to contact us at Tallaght Garda station on 01 666 6000 or on the Garda confidential line.’

Local Fine Fáil councillor Charlie O’Connor said that Mr Muldoon’s sudden death had ‘shocked the area’.

‘The young man was wellknown in the area,’ he added.

‘It’s a very tragic event and my thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends.’

Garda technical experts carried out forensic examinations at the scene and a number of empty beer bottles were taken away.’

The youth can be detained for up to 24 hours.
