MEGHAN’S FOUR OUTFITS IN 24 HOURS

Meghan’s mark is a masterclass in strong but simple minimalism

- by Rebecca English

FROM a British perspective, the idea behind the royal newlyweds’ whirlwind trip to Dublin was to promote Britain abroad and make friends.

But as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enjoyed their first overseas visit as a married couple, Meghan showed off four outfits in 24 hours costing a king’s ransom of almost €32,000.

The Duchess of Sussex paid tribute to her hosts as she touched down by wearing a forest green Givenchy ensemble costing a total

of €3,100 complete with accessories. Her arrival saw her looking every-inch the royal style icon as she sported a €700 fitted shortsleeve top and matching midilength pencil skirt, costing €1,190.

These stylish separates, created by the design team behind her wedding gown, worked perfectly. With minimal make-up, her hair swept up in a low bun and understated accessories, she’s a lesson in strong, simple minimalism.

The lesson continued at a summer party at Glencairn House with Meghan managing to look stunning but not ostentatious in an outfit worth €7,050. In a simple

but striking black-belted midi dress from Emilia Wickstead (a surprise choice after the designer criticised Meghan’s wedding look), she wowed the crowds at the British Ambassador’s residence.

She accessorised with delicate drop earrings, a Givenchy black satin clutch and a pair of Aquazzura bow-detail shoes, proving, once again, that less is more. After a run of fabulously fitting outfits, her choice for her second day of engagements in Dublin was a surprise, despite a total price tag of €16,775. The ill-fitting design was a delicate bespoke draped wool dress worth €2,000 by Roland

Mouret. Potentially it was the perfect choice to visit the official residence of President Michael D Higgins, but for the muddy hue and the size – as it was too small.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen her in this style. Back in May, she was pictured arriving at Cliveden House in the blue short-sleeved €1,500 version. There’s no denying it’s an elegant piece, and features her signature boat neckline and a flattering front pleat, but this one is so tight that her strapless bra is visible through the fabric and the Duchess doesn’t look comfortable. It’s a shame as her accessories – the classy black courts, fantastic

Fendi Peekaboo bag (that will set you back an eye-watering €4,050) and delicate diamond earrings, €10,200, from Canadian Brand Maison Birks – are fabulous.

Though she may not top bestdressed polls with her monochrome outfit, Meghan’s androgynous trouser suit was a good choice for her tour of Croke Park.

In a cropped double-breasted jacket worth €1,500 and tailored front-pleat €600 trousers (both Givenchy) and a simple white Tshirt, Meghan held her own as she strode across the pitch – not easy in stilettos.

Costing an incredible €31,365, it’s another understated look, but perhaps a little too understated – a more interesting top and modern jacket shape would have worked better. The Givenchy frame bag, costing €2,000, and gold detail buckle belt are a particularly stylish addition, though.
