Roseanne says sorry for tweet – then insults victim again

COMEDIAN Roseanne Barr apologised for a racist tweet yesterday – and then insulted her victim again.

The star appeared on US TV for the first time since the comeback series of her self-titled show was cancelled two months ago. The rebirth of the 1980s’ hit drew millions of viewers, but it was axed in May after she took aim at an ex-aide of former president Barack Obama.

In a tweet, Barr (pictured) likened Valerie Jarrett, an African-American former adviser to Mr Obama, to an ape.

Barr told Fox News: ‘Her skin tone is like mine. I’m brown. I didn’t know she was African-American, I assumed she was from Iran.’ Only after being pressured several times by interviewer Sean Hannity did the 65year-old say sorry to Mrs Jarrett directly into the camera. ‘I’m so sorry that you thought I was racist,’ she said. ‘And that you thought my tweet was racist. Because it wasn’t, it was political.

‘I’m sorry that you feel harmed and hurt,’ she added.

But moments later, Barr insulted Mrs Jarrett again, telling Hannity out of the blue: ‘She’s gotta get a new haircut. I mean, seriously, she needs a new haircut.’

Barr, who is Jewish, claims the tweet was her way of defending Israel and hitting back at the Obama administration for the 2015 Iran deal.

‘That is a tweet about asking for accountability from the previous administration about the Iran deal, which Valerie Jarrett is the author of,’ she said.
